Place the bread in single layer in a 9" x 13' baking dish. In bowl, combine sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder. Pour in 1/2 the milk. Whisk until mix is lump free.
Add remaining milk, eggs and vanilla. whisk until blended. Pour cocoa mix over bread. Turn bread over to other side. Pierce each slice of bread w/ a fork all over the slices to absorb mix. Turn over after 10 mins. Let sit 10 more mins.
Melt 2 tbsp butter in lg skillet over medium heat. Using a spatula, carefully transfer bread, one at a time to the skillet. Cok about 4 mins or until bottom looks browned. Flip bread over and cook until center is slightly puffed. Transfer french toast to lg plate. Sprinkle w/ powdered sugar. Garnish w/ fruit and serve w/ sryup.
