I have been doing this for years - I also do a 3 in one -- I first take the old baking soda from the fridge to use and replace it with fresh. Then I use the vinegar that I have used to clean my coffee maker. So I get a fresh fridge-coffee maker and clean drains all at 1 time. Nothing is wasted and all get double use. I also use this in my shower and bathroom sink drains - it helps flush out soap scum.

Soda & Vinegar paste is great for stain removal, cleaning stainless steel sinks. Also cleaning tea stains out of pitchers. Add little Blue Dawn Dish Detergent and it removes stains from clothes..

Hi Dan, I just happened upon this today and have been having so much trouble with those stinking fruit flies. I pinned it down to the drain because I get them in my powder room too. There's no food in there so I figured it was the drain. But, I didn't know what to use on it. Didn't want to use an insect spray and was pondering today what to use. Thanks for something that's bothered me for years. Can't wait to try this. Lorraine

I have a sink plunger, it looks like a miniature toilet plunger. It works like a charm, almost as good as one of those heavy duty wet or dry shop vacuums.

Is it necessary to force us to watch these lousy violent videos? I can't believe they've even come to a cooking site and we have to be subjected to them here. If we have to watch a sales pitch let us see something sensible instead of machine guns, devil makeup, and screaming. Please, get this junk away from us. Love this site, don't make me leave.

Ruth, I never knew that about fruit flies. Now that I know that, I guess I'll be cleaning my drain more often.

I do this regularly to keep my drains clean. Pest control tech told me that keeping your drains clean rids your kitchen of drain flies, more commonly known as fruit flies. They come out of your dirty drain to feast on fresh fruit. Works for me!! No fruit flies in my kitchen.

Joan, it looks like a 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar. I've never used this to unclog a drain, but I use those 2 ingredients to clean my sink as well as my garbage disposal. I let those 2 ingredients sit for 2 minutes, then rinse with hot water.

Does not show how much baking soda or vinegar to use to unclog a sink.
