INGREDIENTS
Cake
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 t. baking soda
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. hot water
1/2 c/ Dutch-processed cocoa powder (I used Hershey's Special Dark which also works fine)
16 T. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 16 pieces and softened
2 c. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 c. buttermilk, room temperature
2 t. vanilla extract
Frosting
1 1/2 c. packed light brown sugar
1 c. evaporated milk
8 T. (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces and softened
1/2 t. salt
8 oz. bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 t. vanilla extract
3 c. confectioners’ sugar, sifted
