100 g (0.5 cups) long-grain rice
200 ml (1 cup) water
200 g (7 oz) canned chickpeas
1 tbsp vegan butter
vegetable oil for frying

1 bay leaf
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp tomato puree
800 g (1.75 lbs) canned whole tomatoes
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp white wine vinegar
