8 oz cream cheese
0.5 c unsalted butter, melted
1 c sour cream
0.25 c chives, minced
2.5 c cheddar cheese, grated
2 t kosher salt
0.5 t pepper
5 large egg whites, at room temperature
¾ cup whole milk, divided, at room temperature
2½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2½ cups cake flour, sifted then spooned & leveled
1¾ cups sugar
1 tablespoon PLUS 1 teaspoon baking powder
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature and cubed
For the Whipped Vanilla Frosting:
1½ cups (3 sticks) PLUS 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened but cool
3½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
3 tablespoons milk
1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
pinch of salt
white sanding sugar, for decoration
