Tomato and Bacon Pasta with Lots of Basil

INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 strips bacon
½ small onion, minced (about ½ cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Kosher salt
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 28 oz can whole, peeled tomatoes
12 ounces bucatini or spaghetti
1 cup basil leaves, packed
Parmesan or pecorino cheese, freshly grated (for serving)
