I found this recipe in my grandma's recipe collection. This recipe is from a magazine clipping from the 1940s. This would be a good recipe to convert to a slow-cooker.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    soup bone
  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 qt
    cold water
  • 1 c
    canned tomatoes
  • 1 large
    onion, sliced
  • 1/2 c
    diced carrots
  • 1/2 c
    diced celery
  • 1/2 c
    diced potatoes
  • 1/2 c
    peas, frozen

How to Make Vegetable Soup

Step-by-Step

  1. Remove a portion of the meat from the soup bone and dice. Brown diced meat in oil.
  2. Place browned meat, soup bone, and seasonings in large soup pot; cover with cold water.
  3. Cover and heat to boiling. Then simmer for 2 1/2 hours-until meat is tender.
  4. Skim off fat. Add vegetables and cook until vegetables are tender.
