I found this recipe in my grandma's recipe collection. This recipe is from a magazine clipping from the 1940s. This would be a good recipe to convert to a slow-cooker.

2 lb
soup bone
2 Tbsp
oil
salt and pepper to taste
2 qt
cold water
1 c
canned tomatoes
1 large
onion, sliced
1/2 c
diced carrots
1/2 c
diced celery
1/2 c
diced potatoes
1/2 c
peas, frozen

How to Make Vegetable Soup

Step-by-Step

  • 1Remove a portion of the meat from the soup bone and dice. Brown diced meat in oil.
  • 2Place browned meat, soup bone, and seasonings in large soup pot; cover with cold water.
  • 3Cover and heat to boiling. Then simmer for 2 1/2 hours-until meat is tender.
  • 4Skim off fat. Add vegetables and cook until vegetables are tender.
