I found this recipe in my grandma's recipe collection. This recipe is from a magazine clipping from the 1940s. This would be a good recipe to convert to a slow-cooker.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds soup bone
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 quarts cold water
  • 1 cup canned tomatoes
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup diced potatoes
  • 1/2 cup peas, frozen

How To Make vegetable soup

  • Step 1
    Remove a portion of the meat from the soup bone and dice. Brown diced meat in oil.
  • Step 2
    Place browned meat, soup bone, and seasonings in large soup pot; cover with cold water.
  • Step 3
    Cover and heat to boiling. Then simmer for 2 1/2 hours-until meat is tender.
  • Step 4
    Skim off fat. Add vegetables and cook until vegetables are tender.
