  • 4-6 slice
    salt pork or bacon ends

    medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 4 c
    chopped cabbage
  • 1 c
    carrots, chopped
  • 1 c
    turnip, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 c
    parsnip, chopped, optional
  • 2 large
    potatoes, cubed
  • 1/4 c

How to Make Tasty Vegetable Stew


  1. Render pork slices in a heavy saucepan.
  2. Cut slices in sereral pieces and return to the pan with the onion and pepper.
  3. Stir and cook slowly for 5 minutes.
  4. Add cabbage, carrots, turnips and parsnip.
  5. Cook for 1/2 hour stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
  6. Stir in potatoes and water.
  7. Cover closely and let steam for about 1 hour.
  8. Serve with freshly baked rolls.
