split pea soup

It want be long and cold weather will be here again, not one of my favorite seasons but we do enjoy a bowl of hot soup on those cold days. This is one of our favotites and it is so easy to make.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot

Ingredients
- 1-(16) ounce bag dried green split peas, rinsed
- 2 cups diced ham
- 3 - carrots, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 - onion, chopped
- 2 - ribs celery plus leaves,chopped
- 1-2 - cloves garlic, minced or grated
- 1 - bay leaf
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped or 2 t. dried
- 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 quarts water
How To Make split pea soup

Step 1Layer ingredients in slow cooker in order given, add water, do not stir. Cover and cook on low 4-5 hours or on high 8-10 hours, until peas are very soft. Remove bay leaf. Mash to thicken if desired.
