ham hock, smoked
1 medium
onion diced
1 1/2 c
carrots, chopped
1 clove
garlic minced
1 c
celery diced
2 Tbsp
1 pkg
16 oz green split peas
9 c

How to Make Split Pea & Ham Soup


  • 1Rinse peas,remove stones and debris. Melt buter in large dutch oven over medium heat.Saute onion,celery,garlic and carrots.
  • 2Add ham hocks,peas and 9cups of water,bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low,cover pot and simmer soup for 1hr.20 minetes till ham and vegetables are tender. Stir often.
  • 3Remove ham from pot,cut and dice meat from bones,add to soup.Season with salt and pepper to taste.
