16 ozhurst's split peas
·salt and pepper to taste
·ham hock, and extra ham slice
How to Make Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Soak peas. Chop onion into pan. Throw in ham hock, peas and water. Boil at med for 1 1/2 hours. Stir to prevent burning and add more water if needed. Remove ham hock, mash remaining ingredients. Put in ham pieces and heat through. Serve hot.
- Note: if you use dried whole peas, cook at least 30 min longer
