slow cooked split pea and ham soup
Its been very cold lately... what's better on a cold winter day than homemade soup? This was also a really good way to use up a hambone and get every last scrap of really good meat. The longer this simmers, the better it tastes. I started making mine at 6 pm on Saturday and served it in the afternoon on Sunday. I got positive reviews!

How To Make slow cooked split pea and ham soup
-
Step 1Put all ingredients in a crockpot and set to High heat. Bring ingredients to a boil and reduce heat to maintain a simmer for 30 minutes or until meat comes off the ham bone. Allow to cool and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, skim fat off the top and discard. Place crockpot back in the heating unit set on high and bring to a boil again, then turn heat down to maintain a simmer until ready to serve, stirring occasionally.

Step 2I like my pea soup a little chunky, but you can puree in the blender if you prefer yours smooth.
