One of my favorite memories has always been my Dad making tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for my sister and I when we were not feeling great or on a cold day when we came in from playing in the snow.

He didn't use canned, condensed soup. The tomatoes were canned from the summer garden. The soup was simple, rich tasting and warming - to the body and the heart.
