1Carmelize the onions:
Line your crockpot with a liner bag or spray with nonstick spray. combine the onions, worcestershire sauce and olive oil. Allow to cook on low for approximately 18 hours. You can then refrigerate or freeze them and use them as needed in other dishes. Or freeze them, but save some for your soup!
2In a sauce pan combine the consume, water, worcestershire and onions. Heat through.
3Divide the onions and broth mixture into 4 oven proof bowls (like a large ramekin). Place a toasted bread round on top and cover with 1/4 cup of gruyere.
