I've tried a lot of french onion soup recipes and this one is by far the best and easiest! Enjoy!

prep time 10 Min
cook time 30 Min
method ---
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 - yellow onions, halved and sliced
  • 4 cans beef broth (14oz each)
  • 1 can beef consommé, undiluted (10.75oz)
  • - fresh mozzarella, sliced or shredded, if desired
  • - day old ciabatta bread or baguette, if desired

How To Make french onion soup

  • Step 1
Melt the butter in a heavy pot and sauté onions over medium low heat until they soften and turn golden brown.
  • Step 2
Add beef broth and consommé and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Step 3
To make au grautin (like picture): top with toasted bread and cheese. Broil 4 inches from heat until cheese melts and gets bubbly.
