I've been on the lookout for a 'traditional' oyster stew recipe to make for Christmas Eve. I think this is it! Prep time is next to nothing if you buy your oysters already shucked!

Ingredients
- 1 pint oysters, with liquid
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 1/2 cup shallots, minced
- 1 cup light cream
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- to taste - cayenne pepper
- additional - butter for serving
How To Make down home southern oyster stew

Step 1Saute shallots in butter.

Step 2Add milk and cream, and simmer until almost boiling.

Step 3Season with salt and pepper.

Step 4Add oysters and liquid. Simmer until edges curl.

Step 5Serve in individual bowls with a pat of butter on top.
