If you like rice (especially wild rice) you will love this soup. It is a very hearty soup that is a crowd pleasure.

Stove Top


  • 1/3 c
    uncooked wild rice
  • 1 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 qt
  • 1 medium
    onion, chopped
  • 1
    celery rib, finely chopped
  • 1 medium
    carrot, finely chopped
  • 1/2 c
  • 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3 c
    chicken broth
  • 2 c
    half and half cream
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1 tsp

How to Make Wild Rice Soup


  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, oil and water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a Dutch over cook the onion, celery and carrot in butter until vegetables are almost tender.
  3. Stir in flour until blended.
  4. Gradually add the broth; stir in undrained rice. Brig to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  5. Reduce heat; stir in cream, rosemary, and salt. Simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes or until rice is tender.
