Ingredients For sweet and sour cabbage soup

  • 2 Tbsp
    oil
  • 3/4 c
    sliced onions
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 1 lb
    sliced cabbage
  • 3/4 c
    crushed tomatoes
  • 5 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1 lb
    cooked brisket, cut into 2 or 3 inch chunks
  • 1-1/2 c
    beef broth
  • 11 c
    water

How To Make sweet and sour cabbage soup

  • 1
    Saute onions with pepper and salt in oil. Add cabbage and bay leaf with 1 cup of water. Put lid on and cook about 5 minutes, until cabbage is wilted.

    Add crushed tomatoes and 2 cups water. Cook for 30 minutes.

    Add brown sugar, beef broth and brisket with 9 cups of water. Simmer for 2 hours. Serve hot.
