Split Pea Soup (Crock Pot)
1-1/2 lbsmoked ham shanks or ham hocks
1 lbdry split peas, rinsed
2 mediumpotatoes, peeled & diced (2 cups)
2 mediumcarrots, peeled & finely chopped
1onion, cut in half and thinly sliced
1 ccelery, chopped
·garlic powder, to taste
·salt & pepper, to taste
How to Make Split Pea Soup (Crock Pot)
- Combine all ingredients in a large crock pot. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Cover and cook on low heat setting for 12 hours. An hour before soup is done, remove ham shanks or ham hocks to a chopping board. Discard bones, skin and fat. Shred meat and return to the crock pot.
- Before serving, mash any remaining potato chunks with a potato masher. Stir and adjust seasonings, to taste.
