This is a yummy soup on cold winter days

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts water
  • 3 tablespoons chicken base
  • 1 pound potatoes cubed 1/2 inch thick
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • to taste - salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
  • few drops - yellow food coloring
  • DUMPLINGS
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup water

How To Make slippery dumpling soup

  • Step 1
    In a soup pot add 2 quarts water, chicken base, potatoes, celery, onions, salt and pepper
  • Step 2
    Cook for 1/2 hour.
  • Step 3
    Remove veggies from stock and set aside.
  • Step 4
    Sift flour in a mixing bowl
  • Step 5
    Add salt, and cut in shortening
  • Step 6
    Add water small amounts at a time until dough is soft yet not too sticky
  • Step 7
    Roll out wafer thin.
  • Step 8
    Cut into squares
  • Step 9
    Drop into boiling soup broth. Cook for 15 minutes DO NOT COVER POT.
  • Step 10
    Add veggies back to stock I like to add a few drops of yellow food coloring to make the soup more appealing
