polish sausage stew

Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by my cousin Jeanetta.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 medium head green cabbage, cut in 8 wedges
  • 4 to 5 small potatoes, peeled
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • t teaspoon honey or sugar
  • dash pepper
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 12 to 16 ounces sausage (polish or kielbas, your choice of beef or pork)

How To Make polish sausage stew

  • Step 1
    In Dutch oven, over medium heat. stir butter and cabbage until wilted.
  • Step 2
    Add remaining ingredients, except sausage. Stir to combine.
  • Step 3
    Place sausage, whole, on top and cover.
  • Step 4
    Stir vegetables occasionally.
  • Step 5
    Simmer 30 to 45 minutes, until potatoes are done. Serve.
