Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by my cousin Jeanetta.

Method:
Stove Top

Ingredients

2 Tbsp
butter or margarine
1 medium
head green cabbage, cut in 8 wedges
4 to 5 small
potatoes, peeled
1 c
beef broth
t tsp
honey or sugar
dash(es)
pepper
1
bay leaf
12 to 16 oz
sausage (polish or kielbas, your choice of beef or pork)

How to Make Polish Sausage Stew

Step-by-Step

  • 1In Dutch oven, over medium heat. stir butter and cabbage until wilted.
  • 2Add remaining ingredients, except sausage. Stir to combine.
  • 3Place sausage, whole, on top and cover.
  • 4Stir vegetables occasionally.
  • 5Simmer 30 to 45 minutes, until potatoes are done. Serve.
