Loved Mom's soup on a cold winter day.... She was a wonderful cook - actually I prefer to think of her as a chef. Miss ya Mom!

Ingredients

  • 1 package pound dry split peas
  • 1 cup celery leaves and stalks chopped
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 teaspoon dry oregano
  • 1 tablespoon parsley leaves
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • - salt to taste
  • - pepper to taste
  • 1 - ham hocks
  • 2 quarts water
  • - small amount of chopped (seedless) hot peppers to taste
  • - (optional) small amount of chopped ham,

How To Make mom's split pea soup

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients in a large pot
  • Step 2
    Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer stirring frequently until thick ( a couple of hours) Make sure it does not burn!
  • Step 3
    I remove the ham bone and add chopped ham as desired
