jalapeno sweet potato soup

This recipe was recieved from a community named Homestead Heritage near Waco, Texas. They use only natural and homegrown ingredients including all their spices. This is best served on a cool fall afternoon with fresh homemade bread, but can be enjoyed anytime. A bit spicy but oh so yummy. Haven't met anyone who doesn't like it. Try it, you will like it too!

Ingredients
- 3 slices bacon,chopped
- 1 medium onion,diced
- 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
- 3 cloves garlic,chopped
- 4 pounds sweet potates,peeled and cubed
- 8 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/4 cup pickled jalapenos
- 2 tablespoons jalapeno juice
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups half and half
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
How To Make jalapeno sweet potato soup

Step 1Heat butter in an 8 quart stockpot. Add bacon and onion and cook until bacon crisp. Add garlic and saute for 2 minutes.

Step 2Add sweet potatoes, broth, jalapenos, juice and cumin. Cover and cook until potatoes are tender.

Step 3When potatoes are done, add soda, cilantro and half and half. Mash potatoes with a potato masher or use an immersion blender.

Step 4Stir well and taste for salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
