Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 5 medium sweet onions sliced(vidalia is best)
- 2 teaspoons flour
- 3/4 cup marsala wine
- 1/4 cup dry sherry
- 4 cups beef stock
- - pepper to taste
- - 4 to 6 slices of stale italian bread 3/4 inch thick
- 3/4 cup shredded asiago cheese
How To Make italian onion soup

Step 1Heat the butter and olive oil in a medium size stock pot over medium heat.Saute the onions,stirring frequently until they become soft.Add the flour and stir well.

Step 2Add the Marsala and Sherry and simmer until the wine reduces by half.Add the beef stock and simmer for 20 minutes.

Step 3Ladle the soup into individual bowls. Top each bowl with a slice of bread and sprinkle Asiago cheese.
