Ingredients

  • 2 cups ham, cooked and diced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 10 ounces okra, cut up
  • 15 ounces tomatoes, canned
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup rice, uncooked

How To Make ham skillet gumbo

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients except rice in a large, heavy skillet; bring to a boil.
  • Step 2
    Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Stir in rice and simmer, covered, 20 minutes longer, or until rice is tender.
  • Step 4
    NOTE: May substitute cayenne pepper for black pepper.
