ham hock soup

I love homemade soup, especially in winter. If you do, too...You'll LOVE this!

Ingredients

  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 3 - ham hocks, about 1.5 pounds
  • 3 - celery ribs (or stalks, whichever term you use)
  • 3 medium red potatoes, cubed
  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 medium yellow onions, chopped chunky
  • 1/2 stick butter, unsalted
  • 1/2 pound baby carrots, halved
  • 1/2 bunch chives, chopped
  • SEASONINGS (CAN BE TO TASTE, THIS IS WHAT I USE)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon white ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
  • 1 - packet sazon goya, cilantro & tomato
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cumin, dried

How To Make ham hock soup

  • Step 1
    Melt butter in large stock pot. Cook onion and garlic until onion is starting to become translucent. Add celery, potatoes, carrots, chives and water and stir.
  • Step 2
    Add seasonings, stir.
  • Step 3
    Add Ham Hocks and simmer, covered, for 3-5 hours.
