Slow Cooker Crock Pot

onions, thinly sliced
2 Tbsp
butter, melted
1 Tbsp
8 c
vegetable broth
2 Tbsp
brandy or cognac
1 tsp
each of salt and pepper
baguette slices
2 c
shredded swiss cheese

How to Make Classic French Onion Soup


  • 1In a medium to large slow cooker, combine onions and butter. Toss well and cover. Cook on high for 1 hour.
  • 2Add sugar. Stir. Fold a clean tea towel in half over top of crock pot to absorb moisture. Cook on high for 4 hours, stirring two or three times, replacing towel.
  • 3Remove towel and add broth, brandy and seasoning. Stir well. Cook on high for 2 more hours.
  • 4Preheat broiler. Ladle soup into 6 ovenproof bowls. Place 2 bread slices in each bowl and sprinkle with cheese. Broil 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot.
