oyster stew
(1 RATING)
Quick and easy! This is delightful and the basic recipe is from a Church cookbook, but of course I tweaked it just a bit! Very good!

Ingredients
- 1 pint oysters
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup white cooking wine
- 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
How To Make oyster stew
-
Step 1Check over oysters for any broken shells and discard if found.
-
Step 2In heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Stir.
-
Step 3Add oysters and dried onion flakes. Cook and stir until edges curl. Then add cooking wine and heat a few minutes.
-
Step 4In a larger saucepan, heat milk and cream together stirring well over medium heat. Bring close to boiling point...but be sure NOT to boil. I like to have milk and cream at room temperature as this cuts down on the heating time.
-
Step 5Add oyster mixture to hot milk and cream. Gently stir to allow flavors to mix. Serve with oyster crackers and enjoy! Some like to add hot sauce.
