Quick and easy! This is delightful and the basic recipe is from a Church cookbook, but of course I tweaked it just a bit! Very good!

prep time 5 Min
cook time 10 Min
method Stove Top
yield 4 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pint oysters
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup white cooking wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

How To Make oyster stew

  • Step 1
Check over oysters for any broken shells and discard if found.
  • Step 2
In heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Stir.
  • Step 3
Add oysters and dried onion flakes. Cook and stir until edges curl. Then add cooking wine and heat a few minutes.
  • Step 4
In a larger saucepan, heat milk and cream together stirring well over medium heat. Bring close to boiling point...but be sure NOT to boil. I like to have milk and cream at room temperature as this cuts down on the heating time.
  • Step 5
Add oyster mixture to hot milk and cream. Gently stir to allow flavors to mix. Serve with oyster crackers and enjoy! Some like to add hot sauce.
