Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 - chopped onion
- 1/3 cup unsifted all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons dried savory or tarragon leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 can chicken broth, condensed, 10 1/2 ounce
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup dried tomato bits or dried plum tomato halves, chopped
- 1 pound tomatoes
- 1 can condensed italian tomato soup
- 2.5 cups milk
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 1 - savory sprig or tarragon leaves, fresh, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
How To Make winter tomato bisque

Step 1In 4-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

Step 2Add onion and saute until tender.

Step 3Stir flour, tarragon, salt and pepper into onion until well mixed.

Step 4Gradually stir in undiluted broth and water until well combined.

Step 5Add tomato bits and heat mixture to boiling, stirring constantly.

Step 6Cover and reduce heat to low.

Step 7Simmer soup 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 8Meanwhile, peel, seed and dice tomatoes.

Step 9Stir undiluted tomato soup, milk and half and half into soup until well mixed.

Step 10Increase heat to medium-high and heat soup until bubbles appear around side of pan.

Step 11Do not boil.

Step 12Stir in diced tomatoes and heat through.

Step 13Ladle soup into bowls.

Step 14If desired, sprinkle soup with chopped herbs and place bowls onto plates garnished with sprigs of herbs.

Step 15Note: Dried tomato bits or halves are available in the produce section of most major supermarkets.
