This recipe has been passed through our family for years. This was a common recipe during the Great Depression era.

Ingredients

  • 3 or 4 large potatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • - water to cover
  • - salt and pepper
  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 1 pint half and half
  • 2 - eggs

How To Make buttermilk soup

  • Step 1
    Peel, dice, and cook potatoes and onion in lightly salted water until done.
  • Step 2
    Mash the potatoes slightly in the water they were cooked in.
  • Step 3
    Beat two eggs. Add a little cream. Mix. Add buttermilk and the rest of the cream and add to potato mixture.
  • Step 4
    Add salt and pepper to taste. Heat but (DO NOT BOIL)
