One of my mom's favorites and mine as well. I add even more cheese as there is no such thing as too much cheese.

This chowder brings together those old pals Swiss cheese and ham, and blends them into a wonderfully creamy bowl of broccoli goodness. It's thick, creamy, and full of flavor. Thanks to the ham and broccoli, this chowder is extremely hearty and can be served as a main or side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cubed ham
  • 2 - 3 cups water
  • 1 - beef bouillon cube
  • 2 cups broccoli florets, cut into small pieces
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 cups shredded swiss chesse

How To Make swiss broccoli chowder

  • Cook ham in boiling water.
    Step 1
    Cook ham (about 15 minutes) in 2-3 cups of water (enough to cover ham plus a little more).
  • Remove cooked ham and set aside.
    Step 2
    Remove the ham and set aside.
  • Dissolve bouillon cube in broth.
    Step 3
    Reserve 1 1/2 cup of this broth after boiling. Add the beef bouillon cube and stir to dissolve. Add pepper.
  • Add broccoli and cook until tender.
    Step 4
    Add the broccoli to the broth. Cook until tender.
  • Add ham, milk, and half and half.
    Step 5
    Add ham, milk, and half and half to the broth and broccoli.
  • Mix flour with water.
    Step 6
    Mix the flour with the 1/4 cup water until smooth.
  • Add flour mixture to the soup.
    Step 7
    Add the flour to the soup mixture. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened.
  • Add shredded cheese and stir until melted.
    Step 8
    Add the shredded cheese and stir until melted.
