This is my mom's recipe, and I always have loved this

  • 1/2 lb
    bacon, cooked, crumbled.
  • 6 Tbsp
  • 2 c
    chopped onion
  • 1 c
    chopped celery
  • 2 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 c
  • 2
    10 oz cans baby clams, juice reserved
  • 4 c
  • 4 large
    red-skinned potatoes, diced
  • 1 pinch
  • 2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp
    hot sauce
  • 2 c
    light cream
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh chopped chives

How to Make Mom's best clam chowder


  1. melt butter in lg pot. Add onion, celery and garlic. Cook until tender. Add flour, cook, stirring constantly for 2 min., over medium heat. Add clam juice and water. Bring to a simmer, simmer 15 mins. Add potatoes, nutmeg, worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. Simmer 15 mins. Add cream, and clams. Bring to a slow simmer for about 12 mins or until heated though. Stir in salt and pepper. Sprinkle w/ bacon and chives.
