Busy days don't always give you time to make everything from scratch. This is delicious chili using a bit of a shortcut. Cook completely on the stovetop, or finish in the crock pot.

ground beef
1 c
onion, diced
1 tsp
minced garlic
1/8-1/4 tsp
ground cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp
chili seasoning of choice (i used tastefully simple's "wahoo! chili" blend)
1 pkg
bear creek "darn good" chili mix
2 can(s)
(6 oz) tomato paste
7 c
hot water
2 can(s)
(4 oz) diced green chiles, or diced jalepenos (if you want spicier)
1 can(s)
(14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 can(s)
(15.5 oz) kidney beans, drained

How to Make Semi-Homemade Chili


  • 1Brown ground beef with onion, garlic, and seasonings. Drain.
  • 2Add water and bring to a boil. Whisk in tomato paste and Bear Creek chili mix.
  • 3Stir in tomatoes, beans, and green chiles.
  • 4Either reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes, or pour into a crock pot and cook on low for 2-4 hours. Top with cheese and sour cream to serve, if desired.
