My sister and I made this up when we were teens working at a local drive-in. I still love them!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

What a fun, different way to eat a hot dog! The chili adds just the right texture and flavor to make this one yummy meal. It's an easy meal to throw together on a busy day or would be great at a summer cookout. Betcha, these would be a big hit at a tailgate party too. So many options!

How To Make hot dog on the round

First make your chili. I cook 1 lb of hamburger meat, 1 T. chopped garlic, 1 chopped onion, 1 t. cumin in a cast iron skillet. Drain and then add 8 oz. tomato sauce, about 1/2 cup water, 2 T. chili powder, ketchup to taste (about a cup for us), 1 T. sugar and a pinch of salt. Let simmer for about an hour.

While chili is cooking, take a package of weiners and slice each one longways down the middle. Fry in hot oil and let them curl up. Chop some onion and grate some cheese. We like cheddar.

Brown hamburger buns in skillet and assemble your hot dogs. I like mine with mustard, about 3 slices of weiners (they fit perfectly curled up), chili, onions, and dill pickles, then topped with cheese. Yum Yum!!!
