hot dog on the round
My sister and I made this up when we were teens working at a local drive-in. I still love them!
Blue Ribbon Recipe
A unique way to serve chili dogs! The flavorful homemade chili is nice and thick. Cutting the hot dogs and cooking them to where they are crisp outside and tender and juicy inside makes for an amazing hot dog. We dressed this like we would a chili cheese hot dog and hamburger. Super easy to make, it's a fun meal for the family.

How To Make hot dog on the round
Test Kitchen Tips
We cut the hot dogs in half lengthwise and horizontally, so there were 4 pieces per hot dog.
-
Step 1First, make the chili. I cook 1 lb of hamburger meat, 1 Tbsp chopped garlic, 2 small chopped onions, and 1 Tbsp cumin in a cast iron skillet.
-
Step 2Drain the grease. Add 8 oz tomato sauce, about 1/2 cup water, 2 Tbsp chili powder, ketchup to taste (about 1 cup for me), 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 pinch of salt.
-
Step 3Let simmer for 1 hour.
-
Step 4While chili is cooking, take a package of weiners and slice each one longways down the middle. Fry in hot oil and let them curl up.
-
Step 5Brown hamburger buns in a skillet.
-
Step 6Assemble the hot dogs. I like mine with mustard, about 3 slices of weiners (they fit perfectly curled up).
-
Step 7Top with chili, cheese, and what other toppings you like. Yum yum!
