Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup poblano pepper, diced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 28 ounces tomatoes, whole in puree
  • 1/3 cup raisins (optional)
  • - cooked rice

How To Make classic chili

  • Step 1
    Cook beef in large skillet over medium-high heat until browned, 2 to 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add onion and pepper; cook 3 minutes more.
  • Step 3
    Add chili powder, cinnamon, cumin and salt; cook 30 seconds.
  • Step 4
    Add tomatoes in puree, breaking up tomatoes with back of spoon, and raisins.
  • Step 5
    Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat 15 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Cooking time: 20 to 25 minutes
