I have been looking for a great chili recipe that I could make from scratch. This one fits the bill. I think the addition of the red and green bell peppers is what makes this chili. Don't skimp on the red bell pepper, even though it can be a little pricier than green bell peppers. I think this chili gets better the longer you have it. However, it probably won't last long at your house, it is so good! Enjoy!

Add to Grocery List

2 lb
ground beef or ground turkey
large onion, chopped
red bell pepper, chopped
green bell pepper, chopped
2 Tbsp
minced garlic
1 can(s)
16 oz. navy beans, rinsed and drained
1 can(s)
28 oz. whole tomatoes, cut up, undrained
1 can(s)
8 oz. tomato sauce
3 Tbsp
chili powder
1 tsp
ground cumin
1 Tbsp
1 can(s)
7 oz. mild green chilies, undrained
2 Tbsp
tabasco sauce
salt and black pepper, to taste

How to Make Chili

  • 1Cook ground beef (I used lean ground round) or turkey with onions, green and red bell peppers and garlic until meat is no longer pink. Drain.
  • 2Add remaining ingredients and let simmer about an hour, stirring occasionally. May need to add water and salt/pepper as chili cooks, depending on how thick you like your chili.
  • 3Can be served with shredded cheese of your choice on top and crackers or cornbread.
