Cook onion,garlic, pepper and meat the day before, store in refrigerator, add to pot with other ingredients-the main step is done!

Ingredients

  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 1 - green pepper, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 2 pounds ground beef, turkey, lean, your choice
  • 1 package chili seasoning
  • 14 ounces tomato juice
  • 29 ounces tomatoes,diced w/liquid
  • 30 ounces mrs grimes chili beans
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

How To Make cheryl's chili

  • Step 1
    In a large pot,over medium heat saute onion, green pepper and garlic in a couple tablespoons of olive oil until translucent, about 10 minutes. Add meat of your choice until cooked and no longer pink.
  • Step 2
    Add tomato juice, chili seasoning,tomatoes, chili beans and stir well,add pepper flakes, sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to low-simmer for 45 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Serve with dollop of sour cream, chopped scallions,shredded cheese and crackers. Great the next day as chili dogs!
  • Step 4
    I choose at least 85% lean meat since that reduces fat, if meat seems greasy, before step 2 go ahead and rinse in a colander, return to pot and continue.
