Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chili meat
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 - garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • - "just a pinch" of salt
  • - "just a pinch" of pepper
  • 3 cups tomatoes, canned with juice
  • 1 cup water

How To Make basic chili

  • Step 1
    In a large pot, saute meat, onion and garlic in oil over medium heat until browned.
  • Step 2
    Stir in cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper.
  • Step 3
    Add tomatoes, breaking them up into small pieces as you add them.
  • Step 4
    Add water and mix well.
  • Step 5
    Simmer over low heat, uncovered, for 1-2 hours.
  • Step 6
    Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and add more water if necessary.
