chicken and dumplings

This is my Georgia mother in law's recipe with my twist.

Ingredients

  • 1 - onion
  • 2 - stalks of celery
  • 1 can corn
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups shredded cooked chicken
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 - cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chicken base
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup whole milk

How To Make chicken and dumplings

  • Step 1
    dice celery, onion. saute in the 2 T of butter. Add the garlic, add a little salt and pepper. When they are soft add 2 T. of flour. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add the chicken broth, chicken, salt, pepper, chicken base, corn, milk, herbs.While this is on simmer, make the dumplings.
  • Step 3
    Combine 2 cups flour, baking powder, salt. Add the butter cut into small chunks. Mix until it looks like small crumbles. Add the water. Work into a dough. Put onto a floured surface and roll out. Cut into whatever shapes you like. Drop into a hot almost boiling soup.
