Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    ground beef
  • 1.5 c
    onions, diced
  • 1.5 c
    potato, diced
  • 1 c
    carrot, diced
  • 1/2 c
    celery, diced
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 1 c
    tomato
  • 4 tsp
    salt
  • 6
    bouillon cubes
  • 1 c
    cabbage, sliced
  • 1.5 qt
    water
  • 1/4 c
    rice
  • 1
    basil leaf
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper

How to Make Hamburg Soup

Step-by-Step

  1. Brown meat and onions in pan, stirring with fork to break up meat.
  2. Add all vegetables except finely cut cabbage.
  3. Add seasonings and meat to water in large pot.
  4. Bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Add rice.
  6. Simmer for 45 minutes.
  7. Add cabbage, simmer another 45 minutes.
  8. Stir frequently.
  9. Serve with grated cheese.
