My father worked on the N&W railway when I was younger and he was home every other day. It was a treat for us when he made his soup. I say that it makes 4 servings mainly because that's how many of us there were who ate it. We usually had it with biscuits (canned).

    vegetable w/beef and barley soup

    stewed tomatoes
  • 1 c
    macaroni (precooked measure)
  • 1 stick
    cold butter

How to Make Granddaddy's Soup


  1. Prepare the macaroni. You can use any kind; my daddy used elbow but I use shells.
  2. Combine the soup, tomatoes and macaroni in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Put the stick of butter on top. When it is melted, the soup is ready to eat.
