Ingredients

  • 1 cup carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons beef base
  • 2 tablespoons chicken base
  • 6.5 ounces medium barley
  • 3 quarts water
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • - "just a pinch" of salt
  • - "just a pinch" of pepper

How To Make beef barley soup

  • Step 1
    Saute all vegetables in butter until tender.
  • Step 2
    In separate pan, cook beef; drain.
  • Step 3
    Add to vegetables.
  • Step 4
    Add bases, water and barley.
  • Step 5
    Simmer 30 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Season with salt and pepper.
