cooking oil
2 lb
beef short ribs
onions, coarsely chopped
carrots, sliced
celery stalks, sliced
28 oz
canned tomatoes, undrained and chopped
2 c
beef bouillon cubes
1 c
medium barley

How to Make Beef And Barley Soup


  • 1In a large dutch oven or kettle, heat oil over medium-high.
  • 2Add onions, carrots, celery, tomatoes, water and bouillon.
  • 3Bring to a boil.
  • 4Brown beef.
  • 5Cover and simmer for about 2 hours or until beef is tender.
  • 6Add more water if necessary.
  • 7Add barley.
  • 8Simmer another 50-60 minutes or until barley is done.
