split pea soup with ham
This is an easy soup recipe. I like to just combine the ingredients in the crock pot and go about my day. Add garlic bread and a salad and your meal is complete.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 - carrots, diced
- 3 - celery stalks, diced
- 1 - large onion, diced
- 3 - cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 8 cups chicken broth
- 4 cups diced ham
- 20 ounces bag hurst's green split peas with ham flavor
How To Make split pea soup with ham

Step 1Saute carrots, celery and onion in olive oil for 3 minutes, then add garlic and continue to saute for additional 2 minutes. Add pepper, thyme, broth, ham, split peas (with seasoning packet) and stir well.

Step 2Bring to a boil then reduce to medium-low heat, cover and simmer for 45-60 minutes or until peas are tender.

Step 3Instead of cooking on top of stove, you may put all ingredients in crock pot and cook on low 7-8 hours.
