I love this soup! It is cold weather comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 ounce ham bones
  • 1 can kidney beans, canned
  • 2 medium potato
  • 3 - carrot
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 can (16 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (16 oz.) crushed tomato canned
  • 1 - portuguese sausage or other type of sausage
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1 teaspoon salt or as you like
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 medium cabbage head

How To Make portuguese bean soup

  • Step 1
    Boil ham bone in enough water to cover bone. Cook until tender save stock.Stock will be reduced by about half. Bring stock to a boil and add all ingredients except cabbage.
  • Step 2
    Simmer 1-2 hours until all veggies are tender. Last half hour add cabbage and more salt and pepper if needed. Cook until cabbage is done.
  • Step 3
    Serve over hot rice or corn bread.
