This is the original recipe from the restaurant according to the web-sight I found it on. My husband grew up eating this soup on vacations with his parents. They served all you could eat which is handy for a vegetarian family of three healthy kids! It is a good memory food for him. Also, very delicious! Serve with a good crusty bread with LOTS of butter.

- 2 quarts soft water
- 2 cups green split peas
- 1 stick celery chopped
- 1 large carrot, chopped
- 1 small small onion, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 1 pinch cayenne
- 1 - bay leaf
