Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried split peas
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 2 pounds smoke ham shank or bones
  • 3 quarts boiling water
  • 1 - onion, chopped
  • 1 - celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 - carrots, minced

How To Make my canadian pea soup

  • Step 1
    Wash and sort peas; soak in cold water overnight.
  • Step 2
    Drain and place in a large pot; add water, ham bone, onion, celery, carrots and salt.
  • Step 3
    Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until peas are very tender, about 2 hours, adding more water if needed.
  • Step 4
    Remove ham; chop and return to soup.
  • Step 5
    Season to taste with salt and pepper.
