dried split peas
3 c
cold water
2 lb
smoke ham shank or bones
3 qt
boiling water
onion, chopped
celery stalk, chopped
1 tsp
carrots, minced

How to Make My Canadian Pea Soup


  • 1Wash and sort peas; soak in cold water overnight.
  • 2Drain and place in a large pot; add water, ham bone, onion, celery, carrots and salt.
  • 3Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer until peas are very tender, about 2 hours, adding more water if needed.
  • 4Remove ham; chop and return to soup.
  • 5Season to taste with salt and pepper.
