For Christmas we had turkey and a hickory smoked ham. I had about 10 pounds left over. I bought a big ham! Well, I needed to make something out of it, so I decided on ham and beans. Thing is, the meat is salty on its own, so no need to add a lot of salt to the pot. Still, it makes the beans taste so delicious! Also, it’s important to use maple flavored sausage to the pot, 1 pound of it. Your taste buds will dance with joy and excitement when you make a bowl to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pinto beans
  • 1 box chicken stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 2 pounds hickory smoked baked ham
  • 1 pound maple flavored pork sausage

How To Make ham and beans

  • Step 1
First, wash beans in cool water. Let them soak all day, about 8 hours.
  • Step 2
Drain water off beans, rinse them with clean water.
  • Step 3
Add beans to crockpot. Add everything but the hickory smoked pieces of ham.
  • Step 4
Pour 6 cups of water and a box of chicken stock in with beans.
  • Step 5
Let cook on low all night log. I dice up an onion and add to the pot while it cooks.
  • Step 6
Next morning, I add the hickory smoked ham to the pot. I let it simmer on low heat until noon. Now it’s ready to eat!
