My mothers recipe that was always served on new Years day as I was growing up.

  • 1 lb
    navy beans
  • 11 c
    boiling water
  • 2 tsp
  • ·
    ham hock, smoked
  • 3/4 c
    carrots, grated
  • 3/4 c
    finely chopped celery
  • 3/4 c
    finely chopped onion
  • 1 lb
    canned tomatos

How to Make Ham and Bean Soup


  1. Combine all ingredients and boil for 2 hours or until tender.
  2. Remove ham bone and clean all meat off and place in bowl.
  3. Using a mixer stick or blend in batches. Blend to desired texture. Add ham to soup and simmer for an additional 1/2 hour.
  4. Serve with vinegar
