My mothers recipe that was always served on new Years day as I was growing up.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound navy beans
  • 11 cups boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • - ham hock, smoked
  • 3/4 cup carrots, grated
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 pound canned tomatos

How To Make ham and bean soup

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients and boil for 2 hours or until tender.
  • Step 2
    Remove ham bone and clean all meat off and place in bowl.
  • Step 3
    Using a mixer stick or blend in batches. Blend to desired texture. Add ham to soup and simmer for an additional 1/2 hour.
  • Step 4
    Serve with vinegar
